Billy
Liar Following a highly successful run of Ring Round the Moon, Southend Drama Society are proud to announce that our next production will be Billy Liar by Willis Hall and Keith Waterhouse. Our production, directed by Peter Nawrat, will take place at the Focus Youth Theatre, Southend on Sea between the 1st and 3rd December 2005. Billy Fisher is a lazy, wildly inventive, daydreaming, irresponsible clerk in a north country town. Possessed with an extraordinarily vivid imagination, Billy has an inability to tell the truth for more than two minutes running. Working as an undertaker's clerk and unable to come to grips with the drab reality of his life, he treats his girlfriends and his family irresponsibly and spends his time retreating into that daydream world where he is the dictator of an imaginary country. See the link above for further information and Box Office details.

Ring
Round the Moon With Ring Round the Moon just one month away, we thought we'd give you a bit of an update. Tickets for all shows from 8th to 10th of September are now on sale. Please see the advert above for further details, along with the phone number for our Box Office. The play itself is unlike anything the Society has done in a very long time. Our more established cast members have had to come at this with a different approach to reflect the high energy, outrageous behaviour and attitudes of the characters. If you've enjoyed some of our more recent comedy productions, we think you'll enjoy this one too. Always ready for a fresh challenge, Southend Drama Society are proud to present Ring Round the Moon for your viewing pleasure!

Ring
Round the Moon Please note that the performance dates of Ring Round the Moon have changed to 8th - 10th September 2005. The play will begin at 7.30pm, so we recommend trying to get to the Focus Theate, Southend on Sea, for 7.00pm. Southend Drama Society apologise for any confusion or inconvenience caused by the change of date for this production. The play concerns Isabelle, who has been invited to a ball by Hugo. Hugo is a dashing but thoroughly amoral youth. He wants Isabelle to break up what he considers the unsuitable engagement of his identical twin, Frederic. Identical at skin level only; Frederic is timid, decent, and capable of romantic passion, and thus the exact opposite of Hugo. Let the fun begin...

Southend
Drama Festival Last night saw Southend Drama Society's performance of Rush to Judgment by Brian Williams, with the evening culminating in the final of this year's Southend Drama Festival. Rush to Judgment was performed before a sellout crowd, with plenty of gasps of shock and surprise from the audience, and lots of hard work from the cast and crew. Full results are available from the All England Theatre Festival website, but to summarise, Southend Drama Society won the award for Best Stage Presentation, while Sharon Goodman, Darran Lebeter and Mary Lambert were all nominated in the Best Actor/Actress categories. Further details can be found here. Congratulations to all of the team - you did us proud. Next year, we conquer! Meanwhile, the next round of this year's All England Theatre Festival will take place on Saturday 7th May 2005. We wish the Wednesday Players the best of luck!

Southend
Drama Festival Just a quick reminder that this year's Southend Drama Festival kicks off tomorrow night at the Eastwood Theatre. The Festival runs from 14th to 19th March, with Southend Drama Society debuting Rush to Judgment next Saturday. The play, written by Southend Drama Society's own Brian Williams, is a challenging, original one-act play that encourages the audience to consider how quick we all can be to condemn others - before the true facts are known. We hope you can take the time out to show your support for this fantastic event. Last year, Southend Drama Society did amazingly well at the Festival - let's see if we can do it again!

Film
Premiere Four members of Southend Drama Society recently took part in a film project organised by Basildon District Council and Woodlands School. The premiere of the film, called Who Says Housing is Boring! is taking place this Thursday, where those who took part will enjoy the red carpet treatment in recognition of their efforts. A full press release is available here. Okay, so we're not actually called Southend Drama Group and none of us are technically students, but the sentiment is appreciated!
